6 Home Remedies to Manage Hyperhidrosis
Hyperhidrosis treatment involves destroying sweat glands through surgery or other therapies like microwave therapy and nerve therapy. These therapies are invasive, expensive, and have side effects. Other alternative treatments like injections, antiperspirants, and medication are life-long and have side effects. Therefore, one can opt for natural and home remedies for relief and minimize the use of medications. Here are six natural remedies to manage hyperhidrosis.
1. Epsom bath salts
Twice a week, add Epsom bath salts to the water and soak in a tub for 15 to 20 minutes. They not only help in washing away the odor from the sweat but also help you relax and slow down the triggers of excessive sweating.
2. Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is found in every kitchen and pantry. Soak a piece of cotton or soft towel in the vinegar, apply it to your body, and wash it off in the morning. You can also mix two teaspoons of any natural vinegar with one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and drink it thrice a day before a meal.
3. Baking soda and cornstarch
The combination of soda and starch blocks odors and absorbs the sweat. Mix these two and apply under your arms. You can use this remedy multiple times during the day.
4. Oils
Tea tree oil has astringent properties and fights odor-causing bacteria. Mix it with a carrier oil (olive oil or coconut oil) and apply it to the underarms, soles, or other parts of the body where you sweat, using a cotton ball. Alternatively, you can mix powdered camphor with heated coconut oil. Use a ball of cotton to dab on the armpits, soles, and toes.
5. Vegetables and fruits
One glass of tomato juice can help block sweat; potato slices can remove odor and keep armpits and soles clean. Rub those areas with fresh potato slices to remove odor. Grapes can slow down sweating and provide some relief. Eat a handful of fresh grapes as snacks.
6. Herbal remedies
Valerian root and St. John’s Wort treats the underlying cause of hyperhidrosis. Both are used to treat menopause and benefit those suffering from night sweats caused during menopause. St. John’s Wort is used to treat depression and help those who have depression, anxiety, or stress-related hyperhidrosis. Sage tea is rich in Vitamin B and magnesium. Sage tea can reduce the amount of sweat produced for some time. Furthermore, wheatgrass juice can slow down the sweat glands. It is also a rich source of vitamins B6, B 12, C, and folic acid.
