7 Common Lipstick Mistakes to Avoid
Lipsticks are always here to save the day. When you do not have plenty of time for a relaxed, sit-down makeup session, lipsticks offer an instant uplift. However, as handy and easy as it seems to handle a lipstick, you can go terribly wrong sometimes. There are way too many common mistakes you can make while wearing lipstick.
Here are a few of them. So, try to avoid them if you want to have the perfect pout.
1. Not prepping your lips
Before you apply lipstick, get your lips ready. A few minutes of methodical prep work will ensure your lips are smooth and the surface is even for the application of lipstick. Exfoliate your lips with simple sugar and honey, and use a wet toothbrush to scrub your lips at least once a week. This method will help remove the dead skin cells on the lips. This method is especially useful when you choose to wear matte lipsticks, as your lips will not dry or crack. Applying lipstick on chapped lips will result in an uneven finish, no matter how good or inexpensive your lipstick is.
2. Applying lipstick on shriveled lips
Flaky patches on dry, shriveled lips will show right through your lipstick. So, it would be best if you kept your puckers hydrated and well moisturized. Follow the exfoliation routine with a buttery moisturizer, a soothing lip balm, or natural oils like coconut or almond. Doing so will make it easier for you to apply lipstick and ensure it stays on your lips longer.
3. Applying lipstick immediately after lip balm
Do not be in a hurry to apply lipstick. After applying lip balm, wait a few minutes for it to penetrate your lips, and then apply the lipstick. This way, the actual color of the lipstick will pop. Sometimes, the lip balm will form a film over the lips and not allow for easy application of the lipstick. Besides, the lipstick color will mix with the lip balm, and you will not get the desired finish.
4. Applying too much lipstick
Applying too much lipstick can make your lips look patchy. Also, it might smear on clothing, bedding, and even your teeth. Always apply makeup in a well-lit space so you know when to stop. A single coat would suffice usually. Blot away excess lipstick after application.
5. Misusing the lipliner
A lip liner will define your lips, and it also will help contain the lipstick. If you do not use lip liner, the lipstick might smudge and might look shabby. At the same time, using too much lip liner can make your lips look artificial. Remember to use a lip liner that is just one shade darker than your lipstick. It will ensure your lips look fuller and more supple. On the other hand, if you want your lips to appear thinner, apply a lip liner in the same shade as your lipstick so it becomes invisible.
6. Not using the right lipstick
Wearing lipstick might seem easy, but what lipstick shade will suit you depends on many factors. It includes your skin color, the undertone of your skin, the shape and size of your lips, the color of your eyes and hair, and what part of your face you want to highlight. Consider all of these details before choosing the right lipstick, shade, and formula.
7. Not removing lipstick
Removing your lipstick properly at the end of the day before you go to bed is crucial. It will help your lips breathe and prevent them from becoming dry and rough.
