Handy Tips for Finding the Perfect Foundation
Finding the right foundation for your skin texture and type can be challenging. There are umpteen cosmetic brands, each glamorously advertising their product as the best. It can be overwhelming to be bombarded with choices because there are countless formulas and finishes of foundation. So how can you be sure what is best for you? Read on to know tips for finding the perfect foundation for every skin type.
1. Dry skin
If you have dry skin, choose a foundation that can perform double duty. It must be able to hydrate and moisturize parched skin. A formula that can conceal dry, flaky skin and make it appear healthy is ideal. Use your fingers to press in a light coverage foundation onto your face.
2. Oily skin
When you have oily skin, the first rule is not to bring your fingers close to your face. Put on a magnifying primer to prep the surface on your face for the foundation. Apply a medium to full coverage foundation that will last long on the face with a fluffy buffer, or better still, a sponge.
3. Acne-prone skin
A medium to full coverage foundation is best suited for acne-prone skin. Ideally, it is best to layer makeup products on this skin. Start with a primer, move on to a full coverage foundation, dust in some setting powder, and finish off with a light dust of powder foundation on top. Use a dense brush with a creamy foundation for a long-lasting, illuminating finish.
4. Combination skin
Finding the perfect foundation for skin that is oily in some places and dry in other areas can be tricky. The foundation should balance out excess oil and not dry out the skin at the same time. The best solution for combination skin is to clean your face with a mild face wash, apply a light moisturizer, and then put on a coat of primer. The primer will provide a smooth, fresh surface for you to apply makeup and ensure it stays on your face for longer. Go for a mix of matte and dew finish foundation. Remember not to use your fingers on your face. Instead, use the right brushes to ensure your pores remain clog-free, especially in the oily zones.
5. Sensitive skin
Sensitive skin can be dry, oily, or a combination type that reacts to any product. It can irritate your skin. So choose your foundation with care. You do not want any faux pas when you have somewhere important to go. Keep away from any heavy foundation containing alcohol or fragrance as ingredients. A waterproof foundation might not be best suited for sensitive skin because removing it might be a hassle and cause redness, inflammation, or irritation on the face. Mineral foundation with light coverage is the best option for sensitive skin. Apply it with a clean, soft brush or sponge without applying too much pressure to avoid flare-ups on your face.
